Restoring a custodian of the seas
The GV Independent, once a humble fishing vessel, now operates as a guard ship in the North Sea. Recently, it had to undertake a mission of its own. The ship was brought into Grimsby dry dock to remove years of built-up coatings to restore the vessel to peak performance and return it to duty, safeguarding our waters once more.
Eight Layers, One Powerful Solution
Ship owner, Paul Pederson, faced the daunting challenge of removing eight stubborn layers of old coatings under a tight deadline. The solution? Precision, speed, and the right equipment for the job.
Time Critical
The Quill Falcon Cyclone 120 dustless blasting system, paired with a diesel road tow compressor was just what was needed! Compact yet powerful, it tackled the job with finesse, making short shrift of reaching tight spaces, stripping layers cleanly, and doing it all without dust or damage to the hull. The result? A perfectly prepped surface, ready for fresh coatings.
More Than a Makeover
This was about more than just aesthetics. Removing the old coatings reduced the vessel’s weight, boosting fuel efficiency – an essential upgrade for enduring the North Sea’s unforgiving conditions.
Mission Accomplished
Thanks to the precision and performance of the Quill Falcon Cyclone 120, the GV Independent was back in action and on schedule once again —sleek, efficient, and ready for action.
